MORE than 200,000 people have signed a petition against plans for a beagle breeding facility in Grimston.
Planning permission for B&K Universal to add a unit to breed the animals for animal testing was approved on Thursday, despite criticism from animal rights groups.
The decision, made by the Communities Secretary Greg Clark, overturned East Riding Council's decision to refuse permission.
It means the site will become the second beagle breeding site for animal testing in the United Kingdom.
A petition to Prime Minister David Cameron was started on Thursday. By Sunday afternoon, there were more than 210,000 signatories from across the country. A statement on the site reads: "These beautiful and loving animals will never know love compassion, just pain, suffering and neglect. It's wrong and cruel."
